Grosvenor Road
The Grosvenor Road was opened to traffic on 20th October 2007 allowing the removal of the temporary Bailey Bridge at the end of November. Woks are currently underway on the new slip roads to meet the handover date of 3rd March 2008. The new Roden Street footbridge will allow completion of the on and off-slip roads into the RGH at Mullhouse Road.
Broadway
The last roof slab to the underpass has now been pored. This will allow the complete excavation of the underpass, and construction of the prop slab, beneath which the new carriageway will be formed. Until these slabs are poured, 1200mm diameter steel props, 27m long, span the carriageway between the capping beams. These are then moved to the next section in advance of excavation.
Stockman's Lane
The concrete works to the new country-bound bridge have now been completed. We are currently water-proofing and and installing parapet and finishes in advance of the opening before Christmas. Underneath, we are constructing the new roundabout which will provide an additional lane. The new traffic lights and road works finishes will be completed by March 2008.
The widening works between Stockman's Lane and Broadway are nearing completion, with a new concrete barrier separating the two carriageways. When complete, this will provide three lanes in each direction to and from Belfast City Centre.
Scheme Three (M2: Greencastle to Sandyknowes)
Works are ongoing to all three of the new bridges at Longland's, Collinbridge and Hightown Road, together with the widening works on the city-bound carriageway. The existing Hightown Road Bridge will be demolished in February to permit the full reconstruction of the new bridge.
At Collinbridge the existing bridge has been cut in half to keep traffic flowing while we construct the new bridge alongside. These works are technically challenging and logistically difficult, given their location, which is adjacent to live traffic at all times.
