• Approximately 300 people will be employed during the contract.
  • 375,000 tonnes of material will be excavated from the works. One tonne is 2000 pounds approximately! If the average person weighs 150 pounds we will be removing the equivalent of the two thirds of the population of Ireland North and South!!
  • 32,500 m3 of concrete will be used in the construction and this is enough to fill 13 Olympic size swimming pools.
  • 1600 large diameter piles which are 1200mm in diameter will be used to line the underpasses. The average length is 18 metres. That is 16 miles of piling and is the largest secane bored piling contract in Ireland currently.
  • 16,000 metres of kerbing will be laid – that’s ten miles and would stretch from earth to space nearly twice!!
  • Over 100,000 tonnes of surface materials will be used to surface the road
  • The temporary Bridge which will cross the Westlink at Grosvenor is seven span and is 137 metres long.
  • The bridge carries two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, and two footpaths on either side.
  • Pedestrian access will be enclosed with mesh protection and can carry all types of traffic including HGVs.
  • The bridge will be located 70 metres South from the centre of the roundabout and will be located in the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company yard and in the playing fields at Grosvenor Recreation Centre
